Ordinary Level

We follow the government-approved National Curriculum taught in the English medium, OL students are required to take 9 subjects.

Certification awarded: National General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level.

Advanced Level

We follow the government-approved National Curriculum taught in the English medium, AL students are required to take 3 subjects from the given combinations.

Certification awarded: National General Certificate of Education Advanced Level.

Subject Combinations

Subject Combination in the Science Stream

  • Physics / English Literature*
  • Chemistry / Information and Communication Technology*
  • Biology / Combined Mathematics*

Subject Combination in the Commerce Stream

  • Accounting / English Literature*
  • Business Studies / Information and Communication Technology*
  • Economics

Other Subjects

  • General English (taught in school)
  • Common General Test (not taught in school)
  • General Information Technology (optional and not taught in school)

Other Compulsory Subjects

  • Effective Speech
  • Physical Education
  • Religion
  • Cultural Dancing
  • Soft Skills

3 subjects from any one of the combinations shown above must be selected.

Examinations

The National Curriculum OL examinations will be held in December every year, and the Advanced Level examinations will be held in August of every year as published by the government.

Students, who have met the Lyceum academic standards will be allowed to sit the exams.

National Languages

Both Sinhala and Tamil are taught as a second language at Lyceum from Grades 1 to 8. Foreign students must also study at least one of the languages.

Religious Education

At Lyceum all religions are taught:

  • Buddhism
  • Hinduism
  • Catholicism
  • Christianity
  • Islam

Other Languages

Students have the option of learning French* or Mandarin Chinese* from Grade 6.

All the teachers at Lyceum are very well qualified and experienced in teaching all the available curricula. Teachers selected for each section are specialized in teaching children within the three age groups and are experts in their respective subjects.
