Lyceum Wattala became the first International School to snag the Champions title at the 90th Sir John Tarbet Championship 2022. The prestigious sports event was held between the dates of 13th and 16th of September, 2022 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama. The athletics meet saw the participation of many schools from across the country.
The under-16 and 18 girls and boys teams were runner-ups, with the under-20 boys category winning as the overall champions for the age group, and the girls’ team coming in at 3rd place. In the under-22 category, the girls’ team were the winner of the championship.
Yeshan Kumara (under-20) was recognised as the best long jumper (7.46m) by gaining a total of 1021 points. Tharusha Mendis, whose stunning performance reached 1.96 metres made a new record in the under-16 boys’ high jump after 20 years. He broke the long-standing record of Isuru de Silva of Joseph Vaz College (2002 – 1.95m). In addition, Razwin Careem of Lyceum Panadura reached first place with a new meet record (7.20m) and he was selected to represent Sri Lanka in the Youth Asian Athletic Championship.
